DeepikaPadukone

दीपिका पादुकोण

Her chart's one weak spot is optimism itself. She built India's biggest mental-health platform out of it.

5 JAN 1986 · COPENHAGEN, DENMARK

TL;DR

A weak Jupiter, a public disclosure, and a foundation.

Jupiter runs faith, optimism, the bigger picture.
In her kundli it's debilitated — about as weak as that placement gets.
Here's the part she's put on record herself: around 2014–15, in the tail end of that same Jupiter stretch, she went through — and got treated for — clinical depression. In October 2015 she and her mother turned it into The Live Love Laugh Foundation, now one of India's largest mental-health platforms.

We're not saying the planet caused any of it. We're saying the dates line up, and that's rare enough to be worth showing you honestly.

The visibility graph

No crash. No comeback. Just up.

The line is roughly how big a deal she's been in Hindi cinema, year to year. The bar underneath shows which planet was running her life — Vedic astrology hands a life to one planet at a time, in a fixed order, for fixed lengths.

How to read this one: it doesn't dip. Her career line climbs almost the whole way through — including 2015, the one year that was privately the hardest. That gap between the private low and the public high is basically the whole story.

Padmaavat released despite protests and threats
  • Ahead of Padmaavat's January 2018 release, sets were vandalised and a fringe politician publicly offered a bounty over the film's fictionalised depiction of a historical queen — before the film had even screened.
  • It released after court intervention and heavy security, and became one of the biggest Hindi hits of the decade.
  • In November 2018 she married actor Ranveer Singh, her co-star from that film and Bajirao Mastani, in a private ceremony in Italy.

  • She and Ranveer Singh's daughter, Dua, was born in September 2024.
  • She has continued acting and producing since, through her own production banner.
🔭 Venus antardasha inside Saturn's mahadasha, April 2024 – June 2027. Venus runs partnership and family — a fitting stretch for a first child, if the date holds.

A caution we'd rather give you than hide: her birth time comes from a single published record rated "use with caution," not verified-grade. We've used it for eras only, never for house-level claims — more in Lesson 06.

The complicated bits

Two fights that came for her, not from her

Nearly two decades at the top comes with organised noise. All of the below is public record.

🏹 A bounty on her head, before anyone saw the film
What's public

In the run-up to Padmaavat's January 2018 release, members of a fringe group vandalised sets and threatened cast and crew, and a Haryana politician publicly offered a bounty over the film's fictionalised portrayal of a historical queen — despite the film having cleared the censor board.

The film released on schedule after court intervention and heavy security, and went on to be one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of that year.

What the chart hints

Saturn had just begun running her life (2017–2036). Saturn's method is enduring hostility in public and letting the outcome, not the noise, decide it.

Her Mars sits in Libra — diplomacy's sign, not a fighter's. She didn't clap back; the film just released anyway.

👙 A boycott call that never landed
What's public

A song from Pathaan (2023) drew political criticism and organised boycott calls months before release, with some objecting to the colour of an outfit she wore in it.

The film released as scheduled in January 2023 and opened to the biggest numbers in Hindi cinema history at that point; the campaign had no visible effect on the box office.

What the chart hints

Late Jupiter handing over to early Saturn is long behind her by 2023 — this sits deep inside Saturn, which typically outlasts a manufactured news cycle rather than reacting to it.

Being straight with you: neither of these was a scandal of her making — both were organised backlash aimed at a film, not an allegation against her, and both films succeeded anyway. They're here because they're the defining noise of those two years, not as any kind of judgment.
Two things that shouldn't have gone this well

The outsider's break, and the low turned platform

A badminton family's daughter with no Bollywood connections

  • Her father, Prakash Padukone, is a former World No. 1 badminton player; she played competitively herself before switching to modelling and then acting.
  • Her Kannada-language debut came in 2006. Her very first Hindi film, Om Shanti Om (2007), made her a top-tier heroine on arrival — a launch most star-kids don't get on their first try.

🔭 The chart bit: Rahu handing over to Jupiter right around her debut — the outsider's hunger meeting the door actually opening.

The lowest point of her life, turned into the country's biggest mental-health platform

  • Around 2014, by her own later account, she went through a period of clinical depression and sought professional treatment.
  • Rather than let it stay a rumour, she spoke about it herself from 2015 onward — one of the first A-list Bollywood stars to do so on the record.
  • In October 2015 she and her mother founded The Live Love Laugh Foundation, which has since funded mental-health helplines, school programmes and rural outreach across India.

🔭 The chart bit: the tail end of a debilitated Jupiter. Not a cause — astrology is a lens here, never a diagnosis — just the same stretch, on the record.

What the sky wrote

Four planets. One of them stands out.

Here's the unusual thing about her kundli: almost nothing in it is extreme. Eight of nine grahas sit in neutral signs — comfortable, unremarkable, doing an ordinary job. Only one breaks that pattern.

Jupiter · in Capricorn

The planet of faith, running on empty

  • Jupiter runs optimism, expansion, and trusting that things work out. Capricorn is the one sign where it struggles most — cautious and restrictive, the opposite of Jupiter's nature.
  • It's the single placement in her whole chart that isn't neutral. Everything else just does an ordinary job; this one stands out by being weak.
  • Its mahadasha (2001–2017) covers her entire rise to stardom — and its final years covered 2014–15.

  • Venus runs beauty, art and what people are drawn to. In Sagittarius it's outward-facing — plain-spoken and global, not interested in playing a part off-screen.
  • Her Venus antardasha has been running since April 2024, through Kalki 2898 AD and her daughter's birth.

  • Saturn runs patience, endurance and anything that only pays off slowly. In Scorpio it works through intensity and privacy rather than visible grind.
  • Her Saturn mahadasha (2017–2036) already spans Padmaavat, her wedding, Chhapaak, Gehraiyaan, and the Kalki/motherhood year.

The mind that keeps looking for balance

  • The Moon runs instinct, mood and the private self behind the public one. Libra is partnership and equilibrium — weighing things, wanting fairness.
  • Her nakshatra, Swati, is traditionally read as independent and adaptable — comfortable moving with the wind rather than against it.
🔭 Moon in Libra, Swati nakshatra. The instinct planet, not the fame planet — worth knowing which is which before reading too much into either.

Two clusters do most of the work here: Sun, Mercury and Venus all sit together in Sagittarius, and Moon, Mars and Ketu sit together in Libra. Jupiter stands alone in Capricorn — debilitated — and is the only placement on this page that isn't simply neutral. Read as a starting kit, not a verdict; that's the whole approach.

Actually learn this

Astrology, but make it make sense

Zero background needed. Read this once and you can decode the chart above yourself — no astrologer required.

LESSON 01

What a birth chart even is

A janam kundli is a photo of the sky from the exact spot and second someone was born — where each planet was sitting, frozen.

Vedic astrology treats that snapshot as raw material, not fate — a starting kit, not a script.

Hers: 5 January 1986, Copenhagen. Sun, Mercury and Venus bunched in Sagittarius; Moon, Mars and Ketu bunched in Libra; Jupiter alone and weak in Capricorn.
LESSON 02

The planets, and what each one runs

Nine of them. Think of them as nine departments, each in charge of one part of a life.

PlanetRunsWhere hers is
☉ Sunstatus, ego, the spotlightSagittarius
☾ Moonmind, mood, instinctLibra
♂ Marsdrive, fight, courageLibra
☿ Mercuryspeech, logic, witSagittarius
♃ Jupitergrowth, faith, the big pictureCapricorn ↓ debilitated
♀ Venuscharm, romance, beautySagittarius
♄ Saturnpatience, grind, delaysScorpio
☊ Rahuhunger, obsessionAries
☋ Ketuletting go, detachmentLibra
LESSON 03

Why "which sign" actually matters

Every planet has signs where it's comfortable and signs where it struggles. Same planet, wildly different output.

  • Own sign / exalted — home ground. Comfortable, reliable, does its job well.
  • Debilitated (↓) — its worst sign. Still works, just badly and against friction.
  • Neutral — in between, which is most planets in most charts.
Her scorecard: eight of nine planets are simply neutral — no own-sign strength, no debility, just ordinary. The one exception is Jupiter, debilitated in Capricorn. A chart with almost nothing dramatic in it, except the one thing that is.
LESSON 04

Dashas — why timing is the whole game

This is the part most people have never heard of, and it's usually where the real story is.

A life splits into long stretches, each one run by a single planet. Fixed order, fixed lengths, and which one you start in is decided by exactly where the Moon was at birth. The technical name is dasha.

Her stretches: Rahu (1986–2001) → Jupiter (2001–2017) → Saturn (2017–2036, current) → Mercury (2036–2053).

Jupiter covers her entire rise to stardom, including 2014–15. Saturn has covered everything since — Padmaavat, marriage, motherhood.
LESSON 05

Sub-periods — the chapters inside the chapter

A nineteen-year stretch is too blunt to be useful on its own, so each mahadasha splits again into sub-periods (antardashas), each handed to a different planet.

Why we can give her this one: dasha math runs entirely off the Moon's position, not the rising sign — so it doesn't need house-level precision the way manglik or a lagna reading would. Her current antardasha is Venus, 5 April 2024 – 6 June 2027. A low-confidence birth time could nudge a boundary like this by days or weeks, not years — which is a very different problem from the house question in Lesson 06.
LESSON 06

What we genuinely can't tell you

A chart has two halves: the signs, which barely move across a day, and the houses, which need the exact minute because the rising sign changes roughly every two hours.

Her birth time — 10:00 — comes from one published source (Seth's databank), rated Rodden C: "use with caution," meaning a plausible but not independently verified record. We found no second time to cross-check it against.

There's a second wrinkle specific to her: she was born in Copenhagen, not India. We've computed this chart using 10:00 Copenhagen local time — the natural reading of a birth recorded in Denmark. We checked for any sign the source instead meant 10:00 IST and found none, but we're telling you our assumption rather than burying it.

So: the signs and the dasha ladder on this page are solid — they barely move even if the minute is off. There are no house claims, no lagna, and no manglik verdict anywhere on this page, because a Rodden C time isn't the bar this site uses for those.
LESSON 07

So — is Deepika Padukone manglik?

The most-searched astrology question about almost any famous Indian, and the honest answer here is a genuine "can't say."

Manglik status depends entirely on which house Mars sits in — 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th. Houses need the birth minute confirmed to a much higher confidence grade than a single Rodden C record gives us.

What we can say: her Mars sits in Libra, a neutral sign, and that holds regardless of the exact minute. Whether it lands in a manglik house genuinely cannot be answered from what's publicly verified — and she's been married since 2018 either way.
Deepika Padukone manglik hai kya?
Unknown at verified confidence. Her Mars sign (Libra, neutral) is solid; the house it falls in needs a birth-minute source this page doesn't have.
What is Deepika Padukone's exact birth time?
10:00, per a single published record (Seth's databank) rated Rodden C — plausible, not independently verified. No second time exists to cross-check it.
How much does manglik dosha actually matter?
Traditions differ — some weigh it heavily, others treat it as one factor among many and note it can be offset by other placements. It's not something this page computes as a yes/no verdict for anyone without a verified birth minute.
LESSON 08

How to actually read that chart square

The grid earlier on this page is a South-Indian chart, the easiest of the three regional styles to learn because the signs never move.

Twelve boxes around the edge, one per zodiac sign, always in the same places. Pisces top-left, then clockwise: Aries, Taurus, Gemini down the right, and so on. Memorise the ring once and you can read any South-Indian chart for the rest of your life.

Try it: scroll back up and find the box marked SAG. Three symbols sit in it — that's her Sun, Mercury and Venus, all in Sagittarius at the moment of birth. You just read a kundli.
LESSON 09

Aspects — planets shouting across the chart

A planet doesn't only affect the box it sits in — it also throws influence at other boxes from a distance. Astrologers call this an aspect, and it's why a planet can matter for an area of life it isn't physically sitting in.

The basic rule: every planet aspects the box directly opposite it — seven signs away. Mars, Jupiter and Saturn each get extra reach on top of that.

Hers: her weak Jupiter, in Capricorn, aspects Cancer directly opposite — a sign with nothing else in her chart. A quiet placement made a little quieter.
LESSON 10

Retrograde and combust, without the drama

Two words that get thrown around a lot and sound worse than they are.

Retrograde means a planet appeared to move backwards across the sky — an optical effect of Earth overtaking it, like a slower car seeming to slide backwards as you pass it. Combust means a planet sat very close to the Sun and was lost in its glare, traditionally read as dimmed, not cancelled.

Hers: Rahu and Ketu are shown retrograde — which is completely normal; the lunar nodes are always retrograde, in every chart, for everyone. Nothing else in her chart is flagged retrograde or combust. Same as her planetary dignities: mechanically quite plain, aside from the one placement doing all the talking.
LESSON 11

What this can and can't tell you

Worth being blunt, since this page has spent a while treating a chart as a serious object.

  • It can describe tendencies and time long stretches — that part is arithmetic; two astrologers with the same birth data compute the same periods.
  • It can't tell you what someone does with those tendencies. Two people with near-identical charts live completely different lives.
  • It definitely can't diagnose, predict or explain an illness. Nothing on this page should be read as an astrological explanation for her depression, or anyone else's — that's not what a debilitated Jupiter means, and it's not what this page is for.
The honest framing: a chart describes the raw material and the weather. It is not a script, and it is never a medical opinion.

Method. Every planetary position on this page was computed from her recorded birth date, time and place using the Swiss Ephemeris with the Lahiri ayanamsa — the same engine behind our paid reports, not copied from another astrology site or named astrologer's chart. Signs and the Vimshottari dasha ladder are shown; houses, lagna and any manglik verdict are deliberately left off.

On her birth time. Recorded as 10:00 on 5 January 1986 in Copenhagen, Denmark, via Seth's databank, rated Rodden C — "use with caution," a plausible but not independently verified record, with no second published time to cross-check it against. We've computed the chart on Copenhagen local time and found no indication the source meant IST instead. This caveat is repeated in the TL;DR note, the chart caption and Lesson 06.

On her mental health. Everything here reflects what Deepika Padukone has said publicly herself about her 2014–15 depression and treatment, and the public record of The Live Love Laugh Foundation she co-founded in October 2015. Nothing on this page claims her chart caused, predicted or explains that experience — astrology is used here only as a lens on timing, never as a diagnosis or an explanation for illness.

On the film controversies. The Padmaavat protests and the Pathaan boycott campaign are included as documented public events aimed at her films, not as allegations against her; neither affected the films' eventual success.
