One planet in dispute. Eight that aren't.
The result: eight of the nine grahas land in exactly the same sign no matter which record you use. Sun, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu don't move. Only the Moon does — and that single disagreement is what stops this page making any house-level claim about him.
Fifty-six years, on the record
A milestone rail, not a scoreboard. Every point below is a matter of public record — dates of birth, education, election and office. We are deliberately not plotting anything like "popularity", and nothing here is a claim that the chart caused, predicted or explains any of it.
Delhi, Dehradun, Florida, Cambridge
- Born 19 June 1970 at Holy Family Hospital, Delhi. Schooled at St. Columba's in Delhi and briefly at The Doon School, Dehradun (1981–83), then St. Stephen's College.
- Completed his degree at Rollins College, Florida in 1994, and an MPhil in Development Studies at Trinity College, Cambridge in 1995.
- He spent the rest of the 1990s and early 2000s outside elected office.
No freely-licensed photograph of him from this period exists, so the tile carries a 2008 file photo.
The entry, at 33
- He announced his entry into electoral politics in March 2004, ahead of the 14th general election, and was elected MP for Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.
- He held the Amethi seat across the 2004, 2009 and 2014 elections — fifteen years in the same constituency.
- He was appointed a General Secretary of the Indian National Congress in 2007.
General Secretary → Vice-President → President
- General Secretary from 2007, Vice-President of the party from January 2013.
- Elected President of the Indian National Congress in December 2017. He resigned the post in 2019, and the party accepted the resignation in August that year.
- In 2019 he was elected MP for Wayanad in Kerala, the seat he held until 2024.
About 10,000 km, mostly on foot
- The Bharat Jodo Yatra ran from 7 September 2022 to 30 January 2023, from Kanyakumari to Srinagar, covering roughly 3,500–4,000 km.
- The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra followed from 14 January to March 2024, from Manipur to Mumbai, largely by bus with walking stretches, across 14 states.
- Both are public-record events with published start and end dates — which is more than can be said for his birth minute.
Leader of the Opposition
- Elected MP for Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, in 2024 — his fifth term in the Lok Sabha.
- Named Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha in June 2024. The post had sat vacant for ten years, because no single opposition party had cleared the required share of seats.
- That is the office he holds as this page is published.
The three things people actually search
Four different records circulate. Astrodienst's Astro-Databank carries 19 June 1970, 14:28, New Delhi — the most-cited one. A newspaper horoscope column uses 14:31. Another site uses 14:45. India's largest kundli site publishes something else entirely: 18 June 1970, 21:52, citing a printed collection.
That fourth record disagrees with his documented date of birth, which every biography and Parliament record puts on 19 June 1970.
We ran the chart at all four. The 14:28 / 14:31 / 14:45 group is astrologically indistinguishable — same signs, same nakshatras, same padas, and the ascendant is in Libra for all three (Libra rises from 14:19 to 16:39 IST that day).
The 18 June record puts the ascendant in Capricorn and the Moon in a different nakshatra. Because we can't adjudicate between a printed collection and a databank, we simply don't build anything on the ascendant. Sign-level only.
We won't give you a verdict, and any site that does is guessing. Mangal dosha is a house-level judgement — it asks which house Mars occupies counted from the ascendant, and the ascendant needs a birth minute we don't have agreement on.
Mars is in Gemini, at 17°48′, in Ardra nakshatra — and that is fixed on every published record. It is also combust: only 13°35′ from the Sun, close enough that traditional texts treat it as burnt.
Counted from the Moon rather than the ascendant, the classical rule does flag Mars — but the same texts cancel it, because Jupiter aspects Mars here. That's a sign-level observation, not a verdict, and it is the most we can honestly offer without the minute.
It's one of the most-searched things about his chart, and a steady stream of astrologers, YouTube channels and Hindi dailies publish "raj yoga" and "PM yog" readings about it — for him and for every other major politician in the country.
AxtroShastra does not publish election predictions. Not for him, not for anyone. An election is decided by tens of millions of people, and a birth chart is not a polling model.
There is a technical reason too. Any dated forecast rides on the Vimshottari dasha, and the dasha dates here depend on the exact minute of birth. Across the four published records the dasha sequence doesn't just shift — it starts on a different planet. Anyone quoting you a dated period for 2029 has quietly picked one record and not told you.
Two stretches that are documented
🎓 → 🗳️ Thirty-three years, then a constituency
- He finished an MPhil at Cambridge in 1995 and spent the following years outside elected politics.
- He announced he would contest in March 2004, at 33, and was elected MP for Amethi that year.
- He has been returned to the Lok Sabha at every general election since — Amethi in 2004, 2009 and 2014, Wayanad in 2019, Rae Bareli in 2024.
🔭 The chart bit: nothing dated, because we can't date anything here. What we can say is that the entry happened during the second mahadasha in his sequence on the 19 June records — and we're telling you the lord's name, not a date, precisely because the date moves with the record.
👣 → 🏛️ About 10,000 kilometres, then a front bench
- Between September 2022 and March 2024 he covered the length of the country twice over — Kanyakumari to Srinagar on foot, then Manipur to Mumbai.
- In June 2024 he was named Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, a post that had been vacant since 2014.
- Both facts are drawn from the parliamentary and public record, not from any interpretation.
🔭 The chart bit: a debilitated Saturn is the classical signature for results that arrive late and are paid for in distance covered rather than doors opened. Read that as a description of a placement, not as an explanation of an outcome.

♄DEBILITATED
The patience planet, in its worst sign
- Saturn runs endurance, structure, delay and the long unglamorous middle of things. In Aries — the sign of the immediate, impatient start — it sits in its classical debilitation.
- This is the single clearly weak placement in the whole chart. Nothing else here is debilitated, and nothing else is exalted either.
- The traditional reading is not "fails" — it's that the Saturn things (waiting, grinding, structural work) never feel natural and have to be done the hard way, deliberately.
- It holds at every published birth time, because Saturn moves roughly one degree a month.

♂COMBUST
The drive planet, standing too close to the Sun
- Mars is the planet of drive, confrontation and physical push. Here it sits in Gemini — an air sign of talk and argument rather than force.
- It is also combust: 13°35′ from the Sun, inside the traditional burning range, which classical texts read as the planet's own character being drowned out by the Sun's.
- Combust Mars is usually read as force that comes out as words and positions rather than as the blunt article — and as a temper that is easier to see than to locate.
- Mars and the Sun sit in the same sign on all four records, so the combustion is not in dispute.

♃RETROGRADE
The teacher planet, running backwards
- Jupiter governs teaching, counsel, doctrine and the impulse to explain. It sits in Libra, the sign of balance and negotiation, and it is retrograde.
- A retrograde Jupiter is traditionally read as wisdom that arrives by revisiting rather than by receiving — the person who keeps going back over the same argument until it comes out right, rather than accepting the received version.
- It is also the closest planet in this chart to the disputed ascendant degree — under the 19 June records it is within a degree of the rising point. We're flagging that as an interesting near-miss, not building a reading on it, because the ascendant isn't settled.
- Jupiter takes about a year per sign, so this too is fixed regardless of the minute.

☾SAG or SCO
The planet that decides the rest — and it's contested
- On the three 19 June records the Moon is at 2°15′ Sagittarius, in Mula nakshatra, first pada — the "root" star, ruled by Ketu.
- On the 18 June record it is in Scorpio, in Jyeshtha, and debilitated. Same person, entirely different emotional signature.
- This matters more than any other single disagreement, because the Moon's nakshatra is what sets the whole Vimshottari dasha clock. Mula starts the sequence at Ketu. Jyeshtha starts it at Mercury. Everything downstream shifts.
- So we publish the mahadasha order for the majority record and no dates at all. A dated timeline here would be a guess wearing a lab coat.

Degrees are sidereal (Lahiri) and are quoted at 14:28 IST. At 14:31 they differ by less than two arc-minutes on everything except the Moon, which moves 1.8 arc-minutes. Nothing in this table changes sign, nakshatra or pada across that three-minute window.

What a birth chart even is
A kundli is a map of where the nine grahas sat, as seen from your birthplace, at the moment you were born. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac — measured against the actual stars — which is why the Vedic sun sign is usually one behind the Western one. His is Gemini in both here, but that's a coincidence of degree, not a rule.

Why "which sign" actually matters
Every planet has signs where it works easily (exalted, own sign) and one where it works worst (debilitated). It's not good or bad — it's whether the planet gets to be itself or has to work against the grain.
Combustion — standing too close to the boss
When a planet sits within a few degrees of the Sun, classical texts call it combust — burnt, its own signal drowned out by a much louder one. Mars is combust here.
Dashas — why timing is normally the whole game
The Vimshottari dasha system splits a life into planetary periods running in a fixed order, each a fixed number of years. Which planet you start on, and how far into it you are born, is set by exactly one thing: the precise position of the Moon at birth.
The boundary that decides everything above
We swept the whole of 19 June 1970 at ten-minute steps. The Moon crosses from Jyeshtha into Mula at 10:45 IST that morning — so a birth before lunch and a birth after it produce different dasha sequences from the same date.
What we genuinely can't tell you
The rising sign (lagna) changes roughly every two hours, and the twelve houses hang off it. Libra rises over New Delhi from 14:19 to 16:39 IST on 19 June 1970 — so all three afternoon records land in Libra, nine minutes or more clear of the cusp. That is real.
But the fourth record, on 18 June, gives Capricorn. Because we can't referee between them, we don't publish a lagna reading, a house analysis, a marriage-house claim or a manglik verdict. Anything you read elsewhere that does has quietly chosen one record for you.
And one thing we won't do at all
We don't publish election forecasts from birth charts — his or anyone else's — and we don't read a chart as an endorsement or a criticism of a living politician. Where astrologers publicly discuss his chart, we'll tell you that they do; we won't join in.
